Front centre, touching one another, three identical grey
urns. From each a head protrudes, the neck held fast in the urn's mouth. The
heads are those, from left to right as seen from auditorium, of w2, m and w1.
They face undeviatingly front throughout the play. Faces so lost to age and
aspect as to seem almost part of urns. But no masks. Their speech is provoked
by a spotlight projected on faces alone). The transfer of light from one
face to another is immediate. No blackout, i.e. return to almost complete
darkness of opening, except where indicated. The response to light is
immediate. Faces impassive throughout. Voices toneless except where an expression
is indicated. Rapid tempo throughout.

舞台前方中央有三個相同的、灰色的甕,高約一公尺。彼此相接觸。每一個甕口有一個人頭,脖子卡在甕口。從觀眾席的視角,由左至右,是女乙、男、和女甲的頭。他們始終面向前方,不轉向。臉孔皆失落在歲月的衝擊中,似乎成為甕的一部份。但不用面具。他們的發言是由一盞投射在他們臉上的燈所帶動的。投射光從一個臉轉換到另一個臉的時間是立即的,也就是說,沒有暗場,光線不回到開場時的暗場,除非有明鮮的指示。
-《戲》(貝克特,1963)-
《戲》是貝克特在1962年至1963年寫成的獨幕劇,劇本指示由一男二女坐在甕中只露出頭,他們的發言是由投射在他們臉上的燈所帶動,談述內容約莫是男性的外遇。劇名《戲》可以理解成「戲劇」或「遊戲」,在人生舞台上,男男女女不過是「演員」或者說是在玩個「遊戲」。三個角色各自「闡述」的內容似乎有著相關性,但其實又可各自獨立出不同的意涵,反倒是整體而言指涉回劇場的本身又或是人類生活的某種映射。
